This Privacy Policy explains how RoomSaathi ("RoomSaathi", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). By using RoomSaathi, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Account information: name, phone number, email address, gender, date of birth, and profile photo you provide during signup.

Verification data: phone number OTP verification and, where applicable, government ID details submitted for identity verification.

Profile and preference data: budget, locality preferences, lifestyle habits, occupation, and roommate preferences you enter to power matching.

Listing data: photos, address, rent, and details of any room or property you list.

Usage data: app interactions, search filters, device information, IP address, and approximate location (with permission) used to show relevant listings.

Communications: messages sent through in-app chat, for safety and moderation purposes.

2. How we use your information

• To create and verify your account and prevent fake or duplicate profiles.
• To generate compatibility matches between users and listings.
• To show you relevant rooms and roommates based on locality and preferences.
• To enable in-app messaging between matched users.
• To send account, safety, and service-related notifications.
• To investigate reported misuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service.
• To improve the app through aggregated, anonymised usage analysis.

3. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal data. Your profile details (excluding contact information) are shown to other users as part of normal app functioning, since matching requires visible profiles. Contact details are only shared once both parties choose to connect. We may share limited data with service providers who help us run the app (such as cloud hosting and SMS/OTP providers), and with law enforcement where legally required.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with access restricted to authorised personnel. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Your choices and rights

• You can edit most profile information directly within the app.
• You can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• You can request correction of inaccurate information.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data — see our Account Deletion page for the process.

6. Data retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. After deletion, we remove personal data within the timeframe described in our Account Deletion policy, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

7. Children's privacy

RoomSaathi is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete that account promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified within the app or via email, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest revision.
